Common questions
Why does Thereish need “Always” location?
To notice when you arrive at and leave a job site while the app is closed, iOS needs location access set to Always. Thereish only records jobs during the work hours you set, and it doesn't keep an all-day trail of where you've been. Without Always, you can still add jobs yourself.
Does it drain my battery?
Thereish is designed to have little effect on battery. Most of the time it relies on the low-power arrival and departure alerts built into iOS. When you arrive somewhere during work hours, it briefly uses more precise location to confirm you've really arrived: it stops as soon as the job is confirmed, and with the standard settings never runs longer than about half an hour. If you turn on Record Travel Distance, it also uses GPS while you're driving between jobs.
Why didn't a job appear?
- Work hours: jobs are only recorded during your work hours. Check them in Thereish › Settings › Work Hours.
- Location access: in the Settings app › Thereish › Location, choose Always.
- Time on site: a job starts after you've been at a site for about 15 minutes. Quick stops aren't recorded.
- Site size: for a big site, or one where GPS is patchy, open it in Locations and increase its detection radius.
- New places: somewhere you haven't saved yet shows up in the Inbox as a new place. Tap it to save it as a Location.
You can always add a job yourself with the + button.
How is travel counted, and why isn't my commute included?
With Record Travel Distance on, Thereish adds up the kilometres you drive to, from and between job sites, and attaches them to the right job. A trip from a job to a supplier and back counts towards that job. Your everyday trip between Home and Office isn't a job, so it isn't recorded. You can edit or reassign any trip. Thereish isn't a mileage or tax log.
How accurate are AI descriptions?
AI descriptions are in beta. On supported iPhones, Generate turns your rough notes into a description on the device, with what was done, anything found, and any follow-up listed separately, so a fault in your notes isn't written up as a finished repair. It can still get things wrong, so check it before you copy it into a timesheet or invoice. Your notes are never changed. If a description says something was done that wasn't, please tell us.
What does Mark Done mean?
Done means you've dealt with a job, for example by entering it into your timesheet or job system. Swipe right in the Inbox to mark it Done. It leaves the Inbox but stays in your Timeline and the Location's history. Adding notes or photos doesn't remove a job from the Inbox; only Done or Delete does.
How do I get the Lock Screen Live Activity?
When a job is running, Thereish shows it on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. If you don't see it, check that Live Activities are on in the Settings app › Thereish. During the beta, starting it automatically while Thereish is closed uses our Live Activity Service, which is available to invited testers only.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
- Your diary is stored on your iPhone and, if iCloud is on, in your own private iCloud. We can't see it.
- Deleted entries go to Recently Deleted (in the ••• menu) for 30 days. You can restore them, or use Delete Now.
- To delete everything, delete the Thereish app. To remove synced copies too, go to the Settings app › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage › Thereish › Delete Data.

How do I send feedback?
If you're testing through TestFlight, take a screenshot and choose Share Beta Feedback. Or email support@thereish.work. Screenshots help.
Already testing?
Thanks for helping. A few things for invited testers:
- Install: get TestFlight from the App Store, then open your invitation on your iPhone and install Thereish.
- Report a problem: take a screenshot and choose Share Beta Feedback, or open TestFlight › Thereish › Send Beta Feedback. Say roughly when it happened and what you expected.
- Detection log: if we ask for it, turn on Thereish › Settings › About & Feedback › Share Detection Log (for Testing). Use Thereish as normal, then tap Share Detection Log and send it to us. It holds times and distances, never coordinates.
